Verde Digital Photography Workshops
A perfect starting point for your Foto Verde photo
journey through Costa Rica or for your own independent travel,
our one or two-day workshops will help you to improve the
images that you capture throughout your travels in Costa Rica
and for years to come! Workshops take place at the home studio
of professional nature photographer Gregory Basco of
Deep
Green Photography, located in the tranquil highlands near
the small dairy farming town of Zarcero. This will be an information-packed
but fun-filled experience hosted in a relaxed family atmosphere.
Who Should Sign Up
Our workshops can be tailored to all levels, including
beginning photographers, casual amateurs, serious hobbyists,
and aspiring professionals. Whether you are a beginner and
want to improve your vacation photos or you are aiming to
become a professional photographer, Foto Verde workshops
are for you.
Recommended Equipment
Our workshops are designed for photographers with a digital
SLR camera with interchangeable lenses (e.g., the Canon
Digital Rebel, 10D, 20D, 30D, 5D, 1Ds, etc.; Nikon D70,
D100, D200, D2x, etc.; Pentax *stD series). These cameras
give photographers efficient and flexible control over camera
functions. Nonetheless, if you have a non-SLR digital camera,
there are also a number of concepts and techniques both
in camera and on the computer that will help you to improve
your photos by leaps and bounds. Suggested lenses or adapters
for your Foto Verde workshop (and for your Costa Rica travels
in general) include a wide-angle or wide-angle zoom, a macro
or mid-range zoom or fixed lens with closeup filters, and
a telephoto or telephoto zoom. An external flash is also
very helpful and will allow you to produce more interesting
lighting under conditions where natural light is unflattering
or unexciting. A tripod will help you to obtain sharper
pictures and to improve your composition.
What You Will Learn
Topics covered include the following:
how your camera works
· exposure · color ·
composition · depth of field · light ·
flash · panoramics
We will put these concepts to use in our
hands-on learning sessions in Greg’s home studio (where
we can use studio lights and see our work on the computer)
and out in the field taking pictures of sunsets, birds such
as tanagers and hummingbirds, tropical flowers, and local
culture and agriculture.
Workshops also can be tailored to the interests and needs
of the participants. Specialty topics include, but are not
limited to, advanced camera features, macro photography,
mastering fill-flash, and converting and processing your
photos in the computer to produce fantastic final images
for the web or as fine art prints.
